Gene is a native of Virginia, a retired Justice Department
executive and now consultant for the drug and chemical industry
and the United Nations. He claims to spend as much time thinking
about a picture as he does painting it. "Like many of my colleagues,
I have spent a career trying to deal with some of society's
ugly problems. But I think we are sometimes in danger of allowing
the catalogue of daily disasters to obscure the fact that
there is such a natural abundance of love and beauty and wonder
in the world around us. These are the subjects which motivate
